Code 10 and Code 39

Code 10

From your Email, I understand that you are receiving code 10 error and unable to use the optical drive installed on your notebook.

Let me assist you in this regard.

In order to resolve this issue, I would request you to follow the steps given below:

1. Open Notepad and copy the text below the two lines.

2.Save it to your desktop as "NoFilters.reg" without " "
3.Open the file, confirm you wish to integrate this file into your registry and restart your computer.

aFrom your Email, I understand that your Notebook CD/DVD drive is not working and I also see that displaying "Code 10".

I greatly appreciate that you have forwarded us your concerns and that you have given us an opportunity to assist you in this issue.

This issue could be due to the corrupt or missing of device drivers. I recommend you delete Upper and Lower filters. I recommend you perform the following steps to backup the registry and then delete UpperFilter and LowerFilter registry keys and again replacing the existing device driver drivers:

=== Backing Up Registry and Registry Key ===

CAUTION: The registry contains critical information and a
registry backup is essential. An incorrect registry
entry may cause serious system problems or prevent the
computer from starting. You will not be warned of any
incorrect registry entries. If the registry is not
backed up, the only way to recover the system is to
reinstall the operating system. Do not double-click the
Backup.reg file on the desktop unless you intend to undo
the changes you are making to the registry.

1. Click Start, type Regedit in the Search box and click OK.
2. Click "File" in the menu.
3. Click "Export" from the drop-down menu.
4. Click the down arrow beside "Save In" and select Local Disk(C:).
5. Type Backup.reg in the File Name field.
6. Click Save.

=== Deleting UpperFilter and LowerFilter Registry Keys ===

1. Click Start, type regedit in Search box and click OK.
2. Click the plus (+) sign beside HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
3. Click the plus (+) sign beside System.
4. Click the plus (+) sign beside Current Control Set.
5. Click the plus (+) sign beside Control.
6. Click the plus (+) sign beside Class.
7. Locate the {4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318} key and click it.
8. On the File menu, click Export.
9. In the File name box, type savedkey and click Save. It is better
to save the "savedkey" to the desktop.
10. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type UpperFilters (found in right
window pane) and then click Delete on the Edit menu.
11. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

NOTE: If this data type is missing, continue to the next
method.

12. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type LowerFilters (found in right
window pane) and click Delete on the Edit menu.
13. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
14. Quit the Registry Editor and restart the computer.

=== Replace Existing Driver ===

1. Click Start and click Control Panel.
2. Double-click Device Manager.
3. Click the drive with the question mark next to it.
4. On the Action menu, click Uninstall.
5. When you are prompted to confirm the removal, click OK.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for other drives with question marks.
7. On the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes.

The CD/DVD drive should appear in My Computers and function normally.

*** Uninstall CD/DVD drivers from Device Manager:

1. Click Start, Control Panel, Device Manager.
2. This opens Device Manager.
3. Click "+" beside CD/DVD Device Category.
4. Right-click the listed CD/DVD/RW and select Uninstall.
5. Restart the system.

Windows will redetect the device on restart and reinstalls the drivers automatically.

this issue could be with many causes. In order to resolve this issue I request you to perform the below steps :

*Reset The BIOS:
================

To restore BIOS defaults in your notebook, follow these steps:

1. Turn on the computer.
2. At the HP Logo Press the F10 key.
3. When the BIOS boots up, press F9 to set up defaults.
4. Make sure the 'Yes' is highlighted and hit enter.
5. Press F10 to save the changes.
6. Make sure the 'Yes' is highlighted and hit enter.
7. The computer should then shut down and reboot.

The BIOS of the computer will be set to default.

The CD/DVD drive should appear in My Computers and function normally.

Solution 3:
===========

Reinstalling the CD-RW drivers:
================================

1. Click Start and select Control Panel.
2. Double-click the system icon. If the System icon is not found
directly under Control Panel, click the Performance and Maintenance
icon and then click the System icon.
3. The System properties Window opens. You can open the System
Properties window directly by pressing the Windows key and
Pause/Break key simultaneously.
4. Click the Hardware tab and then click the Device Manager button.
5. Click the plus (+) sign next to DVD/CD-ROM drives or Double-click
DVD/CD-ROM drives.
6. Right-click the driver listed under this Category and select
Uninstall. In the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK.
7. Repeat step 6 until all entries under the device category are
deleted.
8. Restart the computer.

Windows will automatically detect and install the drivers for the device
on restart.

NOTE: Proceed to the next solution only, if the solution provided in
the prior step does not work.
