Norton Expired

Completely satisfying customers is our top priority. We appreciate you giving us the opportunity to provide you with superior customer service.

I understand that you have purchased the notebook with Norton Anti-Virus 2005 Software with 15-month subscription to Norton Internet Security but now the notebook displays error message that the subscription expires Dec. 1, 2005.

I would like to say, the notebook is bundled with Norton Anti-Virus 2005 and it is free for 60 day live updates. To prevent the message from appearing you must first configure Norton Antivirus 2005. Configuration must be completed before Norton Antivirus 2005 can be used to scan the system. To configure Norton Antivirus double-click the Norton Antivirus 2005 desktop icon, and click OK on the Expired Subscription message to begin the configuration wizard. Product registration is optional, but the configuration must be completed.

You have a free 60 day trial period after completing the configuration process. If you do not purchase the updated subscription after the 60 day trial period, a legitimate Expired Subscription message will appear and you will be unable to receive updated virus definition files. As a result, your computer will become more vulnerable to new viruses. If you would like to continue the updates, please contact Norton Antivirus for one year subscription.

Hard Drive Space

From your Email, I understand that your Notebook Hard Disk space is decreasing and wish to know the reason.

The Hard drive is consuming more space in Windows Vista. The reason for this issue is System Restore in the notebook.

Scott, in Windows Vista nearly 15% of hard drive space will be set aside for System Restore. System Restore will backup System Settings, files automatically in the computer. Volume Shadow Copy option in Windows Vista will backup files at several dates so that you can access the file at different dates. This will occupy some space from the Hard Disk.

I am sure that the above information helps. If you need any further assistance or clarifications, please feel free to reply to this mail. We would be delighted to assist you.

Connecting External Monitor

We can further isolate the issue by connecting an external monitor to the notebook. If the display is fine with the external monitor, this clearly indicates that the issue is related to the LCD screen. Otherwise, it is due to the some other internal hardware.

You may follow these steps to connect the notebook to an external monitor.

1. Turn Off Computer.
2. Connect the monitor cable from the monitor to the monitor port on
the rear of the computer.
3. Connect the monitor to a power source and turn it on.
4. Press the Power button to turn on the computer.

* Switching the display to the external monitor

Press FN + F4 to toggle the display between the Notebook display and External monitor.

Wood absorbs certain amount of heat and minimizes the notebook temperature.

If still issue persists, it is apparent that this issue may arise due to a possible hardware malfunction. As you would understand, troubleshooting hardware issues like this will not be effective through mail support. They are handled best when the unit is subjected to a more detailed onsite diagnosis by a Technical expert. As the system is under warranty, I could set up a free mail-in service for the system if you could get back with the following information:

Please get back to us if you wish to send your Notebook to mail-in-service :

* Organization:
* Mailing Address (No P.O. Boxes):

Finally, the repair process will take 7-9 business days and may increase depending on the complexity of the problem. We at HP try to fix the notebook problem as soon as possible.

After the mail-in process is initiated, FedEx will come to your residence to pickup the notebook. You will be provided with CSO(Customer Service Order) number for your reference using which you can track the status of repair of the notebook.

Also review the Service Agreement below and provide your acceptance for setting up the service.

*** Service Agreement ***

By sending your Notebook to HP to be repaired, you agree to the
following conditions:

It is your responsibility to backup your data. This includes hard drives,ROM chips, flash cards, etc. HP Engineers have requested that if possible both diagnostics and the recovery be run before sending the notebook PC in to service for any reason.
During the repair process "your hard drive will be re-imaged if it fails Quality Assurance testing", and in this event you will not have the opportunity to retrieve your data once the repair is complete. All BIOS passwords should be removed before shipment. In cases where HP receives units with passwords, they will be cleared, but this will delay the repair of the unit.

Improving System Performance XP and Vista

From your Email, I understand that your Notebook is running very slow and wish to increase the system performance.

I greatly appreciate that you have forwarded us your concerns and that you have given us an opportunity to assist you in this issue.

The issue could be due to the unwanted programmes running in background.

To resolve this issue I request you to perform the below instuctions :

Improving the Performance of Your Notebook PC in XP steps:

=== Close all open programs not being used ===

To close all programs, follow the steps below:

1. Press and hold CTRL + ALT + DELETE on your keyboard. The Close Program window will open. Close each of the programs listed in the Close Program window, except Explorer and Systray.
2. To close a program, click a name in the Close Program list. Then, click End Task.
3. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for each of the programs listed (except Explorer and Systray). When Explorer and Systray are the only items listed in the Close Program window, click Cancel to close the
Close Program window.

CAUTION: Pressing the CTRL + ALT + DELETE keys twice in a row without ending a task will restart the computer. If this occurs, you will have to close all programs again
since all items that were shut down prior to restarting will be running again.

=== Prevent background programs from loading ===

As programs load, the small icons on the systray bar build up (usually these icons are in the lower-right corner, next to the time). Each of these programs run in the background, and each one removes valuable system resources.

If the methods below do not apply to a specific icon, consult the applications documentation or Web site.

Perform the following steps to selectively prevent items from starting when Windows launches.

CAUTION: Only disable items that are known and undesired. Disabling system critical items may cause problems.

1. Select Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then System Information. This will open the System Information window.
2. Click Tools then System Configuration Utility.
3. Click the General tab and then click Selective Startup.
4. Click the Startup tab and remove the checks from any tasks that do not contribute to the system and are unwanted.

If unsure about a task, write the name down and research it on the Internet later. Do not remove a check mark if you do not know what the task is (if possible, do not close Backweb, MotiveMonitor, and Vshield).

5. Click OK to accept the changes. Restart the computer.
6. If Windows or other software stops working after a checkmark is removed from a task you were unsure about, restart the computer and reverse these procedures to replace the checkmark. Press F8 after the very first blue HP startup screen (after the computer has been turned on) to get into Safe mode.

By completing these steps, Windows will run using Selective Startup. This means that Windows prevents the selected programs from starting. If Selective Startup is disabled in the future, all of the selected programs will start again.

=== Empty the Recycle Bin ===

Follow the steps below to empty items from the Recycle Bin:

1. From the Windows Desktop, double-click the Recycle Bin icon.
2. Restore any mistakenly deleted items by highlighting each file, and then selecting File and Restore.
3. Select File and Empty Recycle Bin. Windows will remove the contents of the Recycle Bin from the hard disk (C: is most common).
Select Yes to confirm.
4. Close the Recycle Bin.

=== Deleting temporary files and directories ===

This step will increase hard disk space and reduce the time Windows takes to access the hard drive. To delete these files, use the following steps:

1. Close all open software.
2. Select Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and then Disk Cleanup.
3. Place a check next to the types of files you want the Disk Cleanup utility to delete. Temporary files are safe to delete.
4. Select OK.

=== ScanDisk and Defragment the hard drive ===

The program Scandisk checks a hard drive for errors. The program Disk Defragmenter takes all of the scattered bits of program data and groups them together in the front of the drive.

Run ScanDisk before running the Defragmenter as follows:

1. Close all programs that are running. This includes background programs such as virus scanners.
2. Select Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, and ScanDisk.
3. Select the drive (usually C:\) and check Automatically Fix Errors.
4. If low on time, select Standard. Otherwise, check Thorough. A thorough scan may take more than an hour to complete and is best done when away from the desk.
5. Click Start and follow the onscreen instructions. If the scandisk starts itself over and over, then a hidden background program is still accessing the hard drive. Restart the computer in Safe mode and try again.
6. After testing, the results will appear. Fix or repair any files, if asked. Click Close to exit program when finished.

After running the Scandisk, run the Defragment following the steps below:

1. Close all programs that are running. This includes background programs such as scanners.
2. Click Start, Programs, Accessories, then System Tools.
3. Click Disk Defragmenter. Follow the onscreen instructions. If Disk Defragmenter starts itself over and over, then a hidden background program is still accessing the hard drive. Restart the computer in Safe mode and try again.

=== Freeing up space on the hard drive ===

Windows uses this space for different types of operations such as caching and virtual memory. The computer may not run reliably if the free disk space drops below five percent of the total disk space.

To see how much space remains on the hard drive:

1. Double-click My Computer, located on the Desktop.
2. Right-click the hard drive (C: is most common), and then click Properties.

Use the following steps to remove unwanted programs and increase hard drive space:

1. Click Start, Settings, and then Control Panel.
2. Open Add/Remove Programs.
3. Click the Install/Uninstall tab. Select programs that are no longer used and will not be used.
4. Highlight the program name, and then click the Add/Remove or Change/Remove button and OK.
5. When done, a prompt may appear to restart Windows. Wait until completely removing the unwanted programs; then restart Windows.

Please get back to me with observations and results because it is important that I resolve your issue in a timely manner. I would like to add that we value your precious time and We assure you of our dedicated support, 24 hours, 365 days a year.

Processor upgrade

I regret to inform that the Processor that is specified for any Presario notebook model at the time of purchase cannot be changed after purchasing. After purchase of the notebook, the Processor is not an option for upgrade because the notebook computers are equipped with onboard Processor chipset and there is no provision for upgrading the Processor.

This is the reason that you cannot upgrade the Processor in the notebook. I am very sorry to inform this and apologize for this inconvenience.

Windows Defender

Steps to use Windows Defender to alter startup applications:

===========================================

1. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. Select Classic View, and then click Windows Defender.

2. From Windows Defender, click the "Tools" button.

3. Select "Software Explorer".

4. Next to "Category" make sure "Startup Programs" is selected.

5. Windows Defender will now go through each startup program and try to verify that it is legitimate against a database of known programs.

6. If you want to remove an entry from your startup list, consider disabling it first. This way you can easily re-enable it later if you find out the startup entry was useful.

7.To temporarily disable an entry, click the entry and then click the "Disable" button.

Notebook does not power on

From your mail, I understand that your Notebook does not Power On.

I will certainly assist you in resolving this issue. This issue could arise due to static charge deposition on the motherboard components.

To resolve the issue, I suggest you to perform the following steps one after the another:

Step 1. Power drain:
1. Shut the computer down.
2. Disconnect the AC adapter and remove the battery.
3. Press the power button down for about 30-60 seconds.
4. Reconnect the AC adapter and the battery.
5. Restart the computer.

Step 2. Try restarting the computer only with the AC power, without the battery and vice-versa. Look for any damage in the AC adapter cable. Sometimes the Power cable gets damaged or battery gets discharged and there is no other option left to boot the computer.

I also suggest you to perform the steps given in the link provided below:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?docname=c00372748&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

**********************************************************************************
In reviewing your e-mail, I understand that your Compaq Presario F750US Notebook PC is not powering on.

The issue could be due to any of the following reasons:

1. Accumulation of static power.
2. Loose Connection of RAM.
3. Any hardware failure in the motherboard.

In order to isolate and confirm the issue, please perform the following steps:

Step 1: Power Drain

Due to regular use of the notebook, some static charges tend to stay in the computer, and sometimes results in not allowing the computer to function properly.

Please follow the power drain procedure to confirm the same:

1. Disconnect the AC Adapter.
2. Remove the Battery.
3. Hold the Power button down for 30seconds to 1 minute.
4. Put the Battery in.
5. Reconnect the AC adapter.
6. Turn on the Notebook power.
7. Restart the Notebook.

If the Notebook boots up you may fix the battery back. Try restarting the computer only with the AC power, without the battery & vice-versa. If the issue still persists then I request you to reset the memory modules, as sometimes the memory module connection get loose.

Step 2: Reseat RAM

Please visit the below web site to know the removal and replacement steps of RAM:
