webcam issue

Hi Team,

Please read the below information which will help You to solve the Webcam issues for Vista Notebooks.

Problems with webcams can come from different sources. The problem may come from the webcam hardware or drivers, or the software that's trying to use the webcam may have a problem. First, verify that the HP webcam is functioning correctly . If the
webcam itself isn't responding, then this document can help you resolve
the problem by following the steps in the sections below.

If it's not the webcam itself, it may be the program that you are using. It is a known issue that some programs do not recognize built-in webcams. For example, Muvee AutoProducer does recognize the webcam, but Windows Movie Maker does not. If your program does not recognize the webcam, you should refer to the manufacturer's website for updated drivers, documentation, and patches.

If you are seeing specific error messages, this document will assist you in resolving them. If you are having more general problems, please refer to HP Notebook

PCs - Troubleshooting the HP Webcam or HP Notebook PCs -

Using the HP Webcam with Common Applications .

Verify that the HP webcam is functioning correctly

The first thing that you should do to troubleshoot any problems that you are experiencing with the HP Webcam is to verify that the HP Webcam is functioning correctly.

HP recommends using QuickPlay as the default program for testing the functionality of the HP Webcam.

To verify that the HP Webcam is functioning correctly, follow the steps below

1. Press the QuickPlay button

2. Click the QuickPlay

httph10025.www1.hp.comewfrf-JAVADocimagesc01270821.jpg Video icon, then double-click HP webcam in the Source column.

NOTE It may take several seconds for QuickPlay to start and for the HP webcam icon to appear.

The HP Webcam displays an error message or does not launch The webcam application may display error messages or it may not launch, depending on the application that you are using to access the webcam.

To resolve this issue, go to hp.com and search for SP36935 , which contains the essential system updates for Microsoft Windows Vista, Version 2.00, Rev. 1. A more recent version of this software may be available. To obtain the latest drivers and software, use the HP

Software & Driver Download page.

The HP Webcam is slow when running on battery power and does not detect wireless networks

The notebook PC webcam is slow or lags when the notebook PC is running on battery power. The wireless device is not detected.

To resolve this issue, go to hp.com and search for SP36264 , which is the WinFlash for HP Notebook System BIOS (for Notebooks with AMD Processors) - Microsoft WindowsVista-Based, VERSION F.38. A more recent version of this software may be available. To obtain the latest drivers and software, use the HP Software & Driver Download page.

Determine the type of webcam

HP notebooks use two types of webcame, Ricoh and Chichony. Before updating drivers, determine the type of webcam in your PC. In general, the same webcam driver can be used with either brand of webcam. However, the softpaqs and firmware updates that HP provides to solve problems with a given brand, provide a solution specific only to one brand.

Therefore, it is very important to know what brand of webcam is on your notebook.
To determine the brand of webcam on your notebook, follow the steps below.

1. Click Start , type Device in the search field, and then select Device Manager when it becomes available..
2. Click Continue to grant permission.
3. Click the + sign next to Imaging Devices and then double click HP Webcam .
4. Select the General tab and view the name of the manufacturer of the webcam next to Manufacturer.
5. If the driver manufacturer is Ricoh, the webcam is Ricoh. If the driver manufacturer is listed as Microsoft, you will need more information. To find out more, select the Details tab.
6. Under Property, use the pull-down menu to select Hardware Ids .

If the information in the Value field reads USBVID_05C A, then the camera is a Ricoh.

If the value is VID-04F 2, then the camera is a Chicony.

Figure 1 Webcam Properties

httph10025.www1.hp.comewfrf-JAVADocimagesc01270822.jpg

Now that you know the type of webcam, you can either download updated drivers from HP Drivers and Downloads , or continue troubleshooting specific webcam issues.
Recorded video from the HP Webcam appears to play in fast forward during playback

The issue only affects notebook PCs with Ricoh webcams. See Determine the type of webcam if you are not sure which brand of webcam your notebook has. If your notebook has this issue, but does not have a Ricoh webcam, please contact contact HP Service and Support for technical assistance.

A more recent version of the driver may be available. Check for updated drivers and software for your notebook at www.hp.com. To resolve this issue, if no updates are available, follow the steps below

1. Click Start , type regedit in the search field, and select regedit.exe when it becomes available.
2. Click Continue to grant permission.
3. Create a backup of your registry by selecting File Export and save the file as Backup.reg to your desktop where you can easily find it.
4. Navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{6BDD1FC6-810F -11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}0000 .
5. From the File Menu, select Edit , New and then click DWORD (32-bit) Value .
6. Type UvcFlags as the name for the new word and press Enter .
7. Right click UvcFlags and select Modify .
8. Type 10 in Value data and then press Enter .
9. Close the registry editor and reboot the notebook PC.

The HP Webcam causes the notebook to stop responding and displays black screen on entering suspend mode The issue only affects notebook PCs with Chicony webcams. See Determine the type of webcam if you are not sure which brand of webcam your
notebook has. If your notebook has this issue, but does not have a Chicony webcam, please contact contact HP Service and Support for technical assistance.

To resolve this issue, download and install the latest webcam driver update, version 1.00, rev. A (SP33544)
