From your Email, I understand that your Notebook's Touchpad right button is not working and you wish to send it to repair.
I greatly appreciate that you have forwarded us your concerns and that you have given us an opportunity to assist you in this issue.
Before sending it to repair I request you to determine whether issue is with Hardware or not. To determine this, please perform the following steps :
Step 1
Download and install Synaptics Touchpad Drivers from the below weblink :
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35001-35500/sp35444.exe
Installation Instructions
1. Download the SoftPaq .EXE file to a directory on your hard drive.
2. Execute the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.
Step 2
Once the drivers are installed, please follow the steps given below to configure touch pad sensitivity.
To adjust the TouchPad Sensitivity in Windows XP, perform the following steps:
1. Click Start and then click Control Panel.
2. Click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Mouse.
3. Click the Device Settings tab in Mouse Properties window.
4. Click the Settings button under Devices. The Properties for TouchPad window opens.
5. Click the plus (+) sign next to Sensitivity.
6. Click PalmCheck and move the slider to the desired level.
7. Click Touch Sensitivity and move the slider to the desired level.
NOTE: You can test your settings by clicking Apply and then testing without closing Mouse properties.
8. Click Apply and then click OK to close the Mouse properties.
=== Adjusting Touch Sensitivity ===
The Touch Sensitivity adjusts how firmly you must touch the TouchPad for it to react. If you see an erratic pointer motion, move the slider toward Heavy Touch. The closer you move the pointer towards Heavy Touch, the more pressure you have to apply for the TouchPad to respond.
In general, Synaptic recommends the slider be adjusted more to the Light Touch side of the slider bar.
=== Adjusting PalmCheck ===
PalmCheck is used to reduce chance of accidental contact with the TouchPad being interpreted as a "touch." You can cause Unintentional pointer movement and accidental taps by accidentally brushing the surface of the TouchPad with your palm or some other part of your hand. This can result in changing cursor location when typing, causing subsequent text to appear in the wrong place. Adjust the slider towards Maximum to reduce the chance of accidental contact being interpreted as a touch. If the TouchPad does not respond to a point or click operation, I suggest you move the PalmCheck slider towards Minimum.
If still issue persists, I request you contact nearest HP Authorized Support Provider. This situation requires a one to one communication with a technician while you are at your system. Alternatively, If your mouse pointer seems to constantly get in the way while you are typing, you aren't alone… you click in the middle of some text and start typing to insert more, but the cursor stays in the way. There's a tiny utility called MouseAway that will solve this problem for you… it's not new, but it still works on Vista.
An animated picture would be better here, but you click in the middle of some text…And then when you start typing, MouseAway moves the mouse a short distance away from the cursor:Quite a useful little utility, and since it barely takes any resident memory it's not too bad to keep it running all the time.
